Behind the camera: Raphael Rangel

Raph_300Who are you? Hi! My name is Raphael Rangel, I’m 24 years old. I’m from Brazil and live in Brasilia, Brazil’s capital. I am studding Administration at College. Music and Photograph are two of my biggest passions, so I decided to use the both as a tool of my dream. I can go to concerts and photograph, taking moments for ever. I can show to everyone my vision and feelings about everything through a camera. That isn’t my only work; I do take section of photos of babies, brides, parties, weddings, and many others.

How did you start?: Since I was a child I used to photograph everything and everywhere that I liked to register the moment forever, but only for fun. Few years ago I worked at bank and there met a guy who became my friend and he teached me photographers stuff. Then I started to work professionally, first in my family’s events, after in concerts. I studied a lot of photograph until one day that I had the opportunity to cover a concert of local band. This day was awesome, and I realized that was exactly what I want to do to rest of my life. I never stopped anymore.

What’s in the bag?: In my bag I always carry my Nikon D3100, 50mm 1.8 / 70-300 5.6, 55-200 5.6 and a Fish Eye. At moment that’s all I use, but I certainly will improve my equipments.

Which photographers do you admire? I am searching for good references all the time, I believe that we can always improve what we do, that’s why I have Lorenço Fabrino as my example, he is famous by Luringa, he is a concert photographer and video maker and also does workshops for teaching tips and shoots. His work is wonderful and very inspiring.

Your top 3 tips for music photographers?: My tips may seem cliché, but these really make me a better professional work by work:

  • Study before the events, and study after to see what you can improve
  • Practice as much as possible always, doesn’t be afraid of try new things
  • Don’t wait to the perfect moment, it doesn’t exist, you make your own perfect moment

My favourite shot is? Request a photographer to choose a favourite photo of him own collection is not a easy work. But there one concert that was awesome, and certainly unforgettable, this one was the concert of Andre Matos who was vocalist of Angra. I took a photo, that is one of my favourites, all the circumstances at this photo moment was perfect, and so the photo.
