Behind the camera: Manuel Miksche

manuelmiksche_smlWho are you? Hi, my name is Manuel, I’m 25 and from Munich in Germany. I work as a web developer and since 2007 I’ve worked side line as a music photographer for my own company.

How did you get started? It started very early in my life. Since I can remember I was surrounded by music and my parents took me to a lot of concerts. I think this was essential for getting started with music photography later and keep up the interest in live music and audio technology. In 2007 I started as a event photographer for some regional clubs and media companies in my hometown. During that time I got in touch with local bands and artists, followed by the first festivals and all took its course.

What’s in the bag? Nikon D800, Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8, Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8, Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8, Nikkor 50mm f/1.4, SB-900 Flashlight, a lot of memory cards, filters.

Which photographers do you admire? Definitely Adam Elmakias. He is a very cool guy and understands his job searching and getting great and fresh shots. And also Audrey Dujardin. She kept inspiring me and my work over years.

Your top 3 tips for music photographers?

  • Breathe out when you push the trigger. That helps to get sharper images.
  • Always shoot in RAW format
  • Buy good and high quality lenses before you upgrade your camera body. The lens will make the difference.

My favourite shot is? I think my favorite shot is from the Airbourne headlining show at last years Nova Rock festival in Austria. When I look at it I always feel the magic of that moment. It was unbelievable hot, 65000 people were going crazy after a long day and then this burning lights and the hard guitar riffs … just amazing.

How can we find out more about you and find more of your work?
